Steam Models

Steam Boats

There is nothing more elegant than a model powered by steam making progress through the water. Steam models tend to be detailed and well built but pressurising a small copper can to 50Lbs or so using highly flammable gasses carries its own risks. Its important that you take advice and our club specialist is Chris Starr. He has experience with steam having built his own model steam launch and more recently a working steam train.

A "live steam" model is a very satisfying model to make and run. A number of members have made their own steam plants but specialist tools and skill are required. A number of kits of castings are available from which steam engines can be made in various configurations and both engines and boilers can be bought as ready made items but they are expensive.

This is "Dick The Stig's" other persona. A nice Victoria launch with added detail which can often be seen on the Papplewick cooling pond. It is used as transport for HRH Queen Elizabeth and her arm moves to simulate the royal wave! A nice touch!
